Avon: Fabulous at 125

Oh how time flies! It was only a couple of years ago when I made the drastic yet wise decision to leave my cushy job in the finance industry to pursue a career in the beauty industry. And many people asked me then, "why are you doing this?". My answer then (and still my answer now) :"because I believe beauty can change lives. "

You may decide to call me a feminist (which I absolutely love by the way) but for me, being in the beauty industry has always been about going "beyond beauty" and "changing lives". Knowing that you can make people beautiful while empowering their lives is a powerful thing, and one of the reasons why I love working for Avon-the largest engine of economic opportunity for women on earth.

But why do I love Avon so much? It's simply because......

"This is the company that puts mascaras on lashes and food on tables, that fights wrinkles with one hand and Breast Cancer with the other. That knows the value of a perfect lip, but still opens its mouth and speaks out against Dosmetic Violence and for women's financial independence. Yesterday was certainly a reflection point for me, as I had the privilege to attend Avon's 125th Anniversary: Believe World Tour at Madison Square Garden. Feeling the love, joy, excitement and passion of over 5000 Independent Sales Representatives was truly inspiring and an absolute delight. And of course, seeing and meeting Fergie was a real treat too :)

As a loyal member of the CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women), I always look forward to the CEW Beauty Awards Product Demonstation year after year. This event is held annually to showcase the most innovative beauty products of the past year. It's really a beauty product expo, with loads of people in the industry, mingling over champagne, appetizers and beauty products (not 1 or 2 but hundreds of beauty products).

But for me (like most other attendees), the highlight of this event is actually the Allure Magazine Swag Bag. Imagine a huge bag stocked with the most innovative products of the past year (all up for the annual CEW Beauty Awards). Believe me, this goody bag is absolutely fabulous...

Nail Candy Of The Week: Fuschia-istic

I AM BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, even bloggers like me deserve vacation too :) I am so sorry that I have been gone for so long. But if it's any consolation, I missed all my delicious bloggers too:)

So to start of the week with a rush of color, I just couldn't keep my nails off the hot pink nail polish from Mark Nailed It Trend Mini Lacquers box called Fuschia-istic. Mark definitely Nailed It with this polish. Not only do I love how I get two nail colors in 1 box (fuschia-istic and stay neutral) , but also how incredibly pigmented fuschia-istic is.

All I can say is that my nails desperately craved a delicious dose of pink this week and I gave into those cravings by making my nails simply fuschia-istic. Did I already say it has incredible staying power and all I needed was 1 coat of polish to do the trick? Well believe it or not, this nail color is the real deal. It's such a pity that the bottle is super tiny. But be rest assured, this is one nail candy that I will purchase again and again for only $7 a box.

Nail Candy Of The Week: Navy Baby

I would like to start by saying "Happy Happy New Year to all my delicious bloggers". I know it has been a while since I last blogged. But be rest assured, I was thinking of you all throughout the holidays, wishing each and every one of you a year of delicious things to come.

I am sure you will also be thrilled to know that back by popular demand is the "Nail Candy Of The Week". Woohooo!!!!!!! On this side of the coast, the weather is rather frigid, so I have been feeling very very blue lately...Hence, my nail color choice this week is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Navy Blue.

For a drug store brand, this particular nail line, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, is a bit pricey ($7.99), but believe me when I say, "It is so worth it". Firstly, the frost formula is super amazing. With 5 steps in 1 bottle, the formula includes a base coat, stengthener, grow treatment, color and top coat. Secondly, the color is to die for and I only needed two coats on my nails. Navy Baby is a midnight blue color that's sexy and vampy, all at the same time. I love it because it looks black with a mild hint of blue. Bold, Black, Blue and Beautiful!!!!

So far I haven't experienced any chipping yet (knock on wood:) I really hope it lasts all week without any touch ups though....

Long Lasting Lips

I was out about town with some fabulous friends of mine last night. And apart from the fact that we had a Jake Gyllenhaal and Gywneth Paltrow sighting, my girls and I had such a blast-as always...

At dinner, one of my friends asked me "How do I make my lipstick last all day long?"...

Step 1: Well, it starts with a lip liner. As for me, I always shade my lips with liner before applying any lipstick. I don't just outline my lips but fill it in completely with liner. This morning, like most mornings this week, I have been in a red lippy mood. So I started by covering my entire lips with a reddish liner.

Lip Liner: MAC Lip Pencil in Beet

Step 2: Then I applied MAC Heartless Lipstick from the Venomous Villians Collection

Step 3: Followed by MAC Red Lipstick.

Step 4: To complete my look, I glossed my lips with Lancome Color Fever Gloss in Rouge Magnificence

I have found that the key to long lasting lips is simply shading one's lips with liner before applying lipstick. My color stays rich and true all day long.....

Now my red lippy is complete and I am ready to conquer the world :)

The Land Of Milk Of Magnesia

I don't know about you but I get excited everytime I discover a new beauty secret...

Thanks to my lovely sister-in-law, I just found out that "milk of magnesia" is one of beauty's best kept secrets..specifically for oily skin...When I first heard this, I was completely shocked because all I remember as a kid was taking milk of magenesia whenever I had an upset stomach-which by the way tasted nasty!!!

So how does this great laxative help with oily skin? Well, I have been using milk of magnesia on my face for a week now and here is what I found out:

As a Toner: The reason why milk of magnesia is such a great laxative is because it has relaxing properties. As it has the ability to relax and calm unsettled intestines to reduce acid in one's stomach, it also has the ability to calm and relax one's skin. So rather than using a daily toner after cleansing my face to help restore my skin's natural PH, I dab just a little milk of magnesia with a cotton ball on my face (particularly on my nose and forehead because I have combination skin). I do feel a difference every time I use it. My face always seems more relaxed and less sensitive.

As a Pore Minimizer: I have noticed that milk of magnesia also reduces my pores and removes leftover dirt from my face. If I apply too much on my face, it overdries it and leaves a white, chalky cast. So please be careful with the amount you apply. Believe me, a little goes a long way. Just a little and you'd see magic happen.

As an Acne Treatment: Last week, a pimple was trying to form on the tip of my nose. I dabbed milk of magnesia directly on it and left it overnight. You may call it a miracle, but the next day, the pimple was absolutely gone!!! It dried out completely. I have also read that the reason why this product is such a great acne treatment is because it contains natural zinc, which battles acne fabulously.

As a Primer: I never wear makeup without primer because I don't want anything clogging my precious pores. Also, when it comes to primer, I hardly experiment. I truly stick with what works for me. However, I have noticed that using milk of magnesia as a primer, after my daily moisturizer application, is absolutely phenomenal. It works fantastically as a primer as it tightens one's pores and absorbs oil, making it receptive to makeup while preventing any clogging on the face. The fab thing about milk of magnesia is that I never need to retouch my makeup because it makes my makeup last longer and shine less. My nose usually gets oily during the day, but with milk of magnesia, my nose stays dry from dusk till dawn.

If you have oily skin or combination skin , try it out and let me know what you think...I currently use Phillips' brand, but I heard any brand will be suffice. I would love to hear your thoughts...Good or bad :)

The Birthday Girl Is Ready To Paint The Town Pink

OMG, Guess what? IT'S MY BIRTHDAY. Yippee!!!!! What can I say? I am like fine wine, I get better with age :)

And yes, I think today should be a National holiday because I am a diva:) That's partly why I took the day off from work today :) And I also wanted a day of reflection and relaxation which I am really enjoying at the moment.

So what have I been doing all day? Eating, Praying, and Loving of course!
I have been "eating" all things junk and good...
I have been "praying" for all things beautiful and fabulous in the years ahead....AND
I have been "loving" my fantastic husband, family and friends....
I have really felt so special all day-thanks to all the special people in my life...I love you all more than you know. And thanks for loving me too...

But of course, my day wouldn't be complete without my makeup regimen. And here I am, sharing today's regimen with you...

As always, it starts with my eyes. My signature look: Bat-wing eyes
To get this look, I used MAC LiquidLast Liner in Point Black on my top lid. This is the best liquid eyeliner ever!!!! I love this product because it is highly pigmented and has a great sheen that shows perfectly on dark skin tones.

On my waterline (bottom lid), I used mark "No Place To Run" Longwear Eye Liner in Jet Set. Love, love, love this liner. It lasts all day into the night. No touch ups needed and seriously doesn't run.

To complete my eye look, I used Avon Sonic Boost Vibrating Mascara in Black for the first time ever. I just got it in a goody bag, and I really love it. No clumps, no fuss. And it gives my lashes great definition.

For my lips, I was feeling like a pink day, but wanted something very vampy. So I used MAC Currant Lip Pencil to shade my entire lips. Once I completely colored in my lips with this lip pencil, I used Lancome Color Fever in Rock Icon Fuchsia. After all, I am simply delicious in pink:)

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY and I am now ready to paint the town pink!

My Androgynous Icon

You wouldn't guess what I have been listening to for the past 3 hours? Old songs from the Eurythmics and Annie Lennox....Oh so nostalgic right?....

I still remember the first time I set eyes on Annie Lennox, my androgynous icon....
It was 1992 and I was watching MTV Europe's marathon of Eurythmics videos.....And then "Sweet Dreams" came on and I was instantly mesmerized by how stunning and dapper Annie Lennox looked in a distinguished black suit and tie (and the best orange hair I had ever seen).....She made masculinity look so good.....I truly believe that was the very moment I fell in love with all things androgynous.....

Like Annie Lennox, I am all about wearing men's clothing. Yes, I sometimes buy my clothes from the boys department at Macys:) I just find it alluring to see a woman evoke the same power and confidence as a man.....As they say, "you are what you wear" right?

Beauty Tips At My Fingertips

How I love living in the 21st century where almost everybody has a smartphone or can access information readily. Isn't it amazing how much information we consume every day? Personally, I look forward to my daily dose of news and blogs; hence, my undying love for free apps.

With thousands of free apps created everyday, how can a girl resist the temptation of dowloading free apps? And believe me, being a beauty junkie doesn't help matters much- I find myself frantically searching for new beauty apps daily.

So imagine my excitement when I discovered that Glamour Magazine has a new beauty app called 50 Little Beauty Tricks Every Woman Should Know. I never get bored of discovering new Beauty tips and tricks. And the idea of having a new beauty BFF in the palm of my hands is pretty fabulous.

The app only costs 99 cents (less than a buck), but I just can't seem to purchase it. I usually never hesitate about purchasing anything, which my dear husband suffers for quite often :)

So why do I struggle with this $1 purchase? Why can't I just tap the button that says "Buy for 99 cents"? It is less than a $1 for pete's sake.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!! What do you think? Buy or Not To Buy?

So why do I look forward to Thanksgiving Holiday all year long? Probably because every single year, I eat till I drop on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day), and shop till I drop on Friday (Black Friday). But this year, I am a tad bit more excited than usual-thanks to our live size "Barbie" extradionaire, Nicki Minaj.

Red Alert on Ri Ri : Long vs.Short

I am a sucker for all things edgy- which basically means all things Rihanna. But for some reason, I am having a hard time accepting Rihanna red long hair. I know, I know, I need to focus on more important things apart from Rihanna's hair. Well what can I say, I just can't help myself-:)

Anyway, I really love the vivid color of her hair though, but dislike the length and the styling.

Maybe I am biased because I love me some short hair-:) Or maybe her new do is simply what we call "acquired taste". Whatever the case may be, I just can't place my figure on why I don't like Ri Ri's new look.

The verdict is on! Ri Ri with long or short red hair? You decide...

Being such a TV junkie, I have looked forward to the Emmy Awards all year long. And what better way to combine my two loves, beauty and TV, than to share my favorite beauty looks from tonight's 62th Primetime Emmy Awards with you.

No one rocks a nude lip better than Kim Kardashian. As always, her makeup looks sultry yet effortless. With those sky-high false lashes, no wonder I have a secret girl crush on the Keeping Up With The Kardashians starlet (I guess the cat is out of the bag now:)

The bonafide "yummy mommy" and host of Project Runway, Heidi Klum, looks polished with minimalist makeup and stunning french twists.

The sexy True Blood star, Anna Paquin, brings her "Sookie" charm to the red carpet with a modern beehive hairdo.

Rutina Wesley from True Blood looks absolutely flawless with rosy red lips and loose, gorgeous waves.

Dancing With The Stars alum, Kelly Osbourne, brings back Hollywood Glam with her Marilyn Monroe inspired hairdo.

Lo Bowsworth, my favorite character from The Hills, gives the classic beehive hairdo a sexy twist . And I love the way she completes her look with delicious pink lips.

I Really Want......

Bond No. 9 New York: Andy Warhol Montauk

I am crazy about pop art, so you can imagine just how in love I am with one of the most famous pop artists of all time, Andy Warhol...

This summer, as part of the Andy Warhol Collection, Bond No. 9 New York released it's fifth addition scent, Montauk-named after a quaint little village in Long Island that was frequently visited by Warhol and his Studio 54 friends- the perfect summer escape from the city's heat.

This androgynous scent evokes known other than the sunset. According to Bond No. 9 New York, "the fragrance captures the improbable descent of disco-mania on an unassuming fishing-village and nearby woodlands".

With 2 different bottles, one yellow and the other purple, this fragrance has such a delicious yet compelling woody citrus scent that makes me want to desperately buy it. I guess I need to start saving for the yellow one right?

I can't wait to see how it looks on my dresser:)

1) I buy my beauty products in bulk. While others go to Costco to stock up on food items, I go to department stores and drug stores to stock up on products. What can I say, I am a total product junkie but I think you already knew that:)

2) I am a vampire lover. From Twilight to Vampire Diaries, I love anything that screams vampire. But my favorite show of them all is Tru Blood. Oh so bloody....

3) One of the best gifts I ever gave myself was the Sex and the City complete series box set. I still enjoy it till this day. Oh so fabulous right?

4) I love shopping at Thrift Stores. Not only do I tend to find the most unique items there, but I also find the entire process very thrilling because you never know what you will find.

5) I can't live without chocolate. I am super addicted to it. If I could, I would bath in it everyday. Maybe it is because I am chocolate-who knows :)

Pretty Faces at 2010 MTV Movie Awards

There is no doubt that MTV Movie Awards is one of the funnest award shows on television. And last night's show was certainly no exception. From Tom Cruise and JLO's must-see, hilarious performance to Katy Perry's bubble gum stage presence, the show was highly entertaining.

Of course, no award show is complete without pretty faces parading the red carpet. The makeup and hairdos of celebrities last night were oh so fabulous-fresh, fun and flirty. And like all award shows, some looked better than others.

Rihanna: Fierce In Red

There are so many reasons why I love RiRi. She is gorgeous, unique and oh so daring. I think she is extremely fearless and adorable-all at the same time. I certainly admire her for her fierce fashion choices, but love her even more for her bold beauty choices.

Today I came across a photo of her with her new red hairdo on People.com, and it took me back to a time when I had red hair too. To be exact, the year was 2003 and I was going through a red hair phase:) Yeah, I am sure you all would love to see a photo of me with my red hair right? I promise, I will post it very soon. But in lieu of mine, please enjoy RiRi's photo. I really love the color on her. Personally, it looks like a fiery auburn color. Oh so fierce and fabulous..

Bye Bye Blemish, Hello Zeno HOT SPOT

As many of you know, acne still remains a huge problem amongst teenagers and adults today. Although there are a gillion remedies and acne treatment products out there, more and more acne treatments continue to find their way to our beauty shelves. But while watching The Hills tonight, one of my many TV guilty pleasures, I came across a commercial with Whitney Port about "the new secret weapon in the war against pimples" known as Zeno HOT SPOT.

Zeno HOT SPOT is a hand-held, pimple treatment device that uses heat to get rid of the bacteria that causes acne and destroys a pimple on the spot. According to the reviews and other beauty sources, this device is a safe and effective way to get rid of a pimple within 24 hours. To top it up, this product can either be purchased online or at any mass retailer for an affordable price of $39.99.

I haven't tried this product yet. But I must say, the claims of this product, with its uniquely safe, heat technology, are rather fascinating. I know many people can relate to an unexpected pimple showing up a day before a date, an interview, a huge presentation, a wedding or any other major event. And like many of you, I might have long desired a portable, on- the-spot pimple treatment- without any mess or fuss. Can someone please tell me if this product really works? Nail Candy Of The Week: Dream On

In preparations for the long Memorial Day weekend, I went grocery shopping the other day, and found myself in the nail polish aisle -no surprise there :) As summer unofficially begins in the next two days, I was desperately craving a huge burst of color. To satisfy my uncontrollable nail color cravings, I just couldn't help myself but purchase Sinful Colors in Dream On as my nail candy of the week.

It is such a vibrant purplish fuschia nail color that is so tempting to use. It is really affordable ($1.99) and easy to apply. But the only thing I don't like about this nail color is that it requires a top coat. Without a top coat, the color lacks the luminous shine that I look for in every nail polish. Also, it is not as long lasting and chip resistant as I would have liked. But hey, the price is right and oh so dreamy:)

Think Red, Think Graduation Makeup

I am so sorry that I have been MIA for a while now. I have been so consumed with the numerous pre and post graduation events. Yes, I just graduated from business school last Sunday and I am still super excited about it. It has been 2 years of great fun and friendships, with a trail of financial consequences of course. Lol.

But on a serious note, I learned more than I expected to learn from business school. The most crucial lesson for me was a realization that love and friendships are truly what makes the world go round. I know, sounds so cliche right? Well, it is so true. I won't trade the friendships I have forged in business school for the world.

Ok enough with the mushy sentiments, lets talk graduation makeup:) I purposely wanted to leave business school with a bang. After all, everyone in school knows me to be a makeup junkie. So I decided to make a statement with the classic red lip. Partly because I was feeling rather vibrant that day and partly because it went well with my cap and gown. But I'll let you be the judge.

Dare To Go Bare Sans Makeup?

Would you dare to leave the house without makeup?

Well, I was just watching TODAY's Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda on NBC, where these gorgeous ladies invited women everywhere to join them brave the cameras without makeup. I must say, I was so impressed to see these women show their true selves by going bare on National TV. For the entire hour segment, viewers at home also had the opportunity to upload their makeup free pictures online to be shared on-air. It was so great seeing so many women take a stand and expose themselves sans makeup. So encouraging ladies. Thank you so much for being so brave.

Personally I can't leave the house without a lil' powder, lip gloss, blush and eyeliner. What can I say, I am addicted to makeup. I just feel naked and not myself without makeup. I do love how I look without makeup but I truly enjoy the makeup process. I find it really exciting and therapeutic. But lately, I have been running errands without makeup, so I guess that is a start right?...lol...

Omg, I am so proud of Krista for winning this competition. I have been rooting for her since the very start of Cycle 14. I think she is absolutely stunning. From her cheekbones to her skin tone, Krista oozes fierceness with her distinctive beauty. She certainly embodies America's Next Top Model to the very fullest.

It is so refreshing to see a dark skin girl take the title as ANTM. What I loved most about tonight's finale was Krista's chat with Tyra about the beauty insecurities dark skinned girls face about their skin tone. Her win was truly inspiring to watch and I believe that she would make a fabulous role model for many young girls out there...

Makeup & Hairdos: Costume Institute Gala

The Annual Costume Institute Gala at The Met was held last night. And as always, who's who of the fashion, film, music and art industries were there in great numbers. From celebrities and socialites to models and designers, everyone was at the Met in their best and finest couture fashions.

Do You Believe In Primers?

There are certain things I can't live without and a face primer is certainly one of them. To me, it is one of the best inventions since slice bread. One of the first makeup artists to develop face primers was Laura Mercier.

Like priming your walls before applying paint, I believe one should apply face primers before applying foundation. A face primer serves as a barrier between sin and foundation. It does more than a moisturizer: it helps makeup last longer by smoothing out your skin so that foundation adheres nicely to a smooth surface, which gives your foundation a more finished, fresh and even look.

Here are some of my favorites:

Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation Primer: Perfect for oily, sensitive and acne prone skin. It has a lightweight, creamy gel formulation that contains Vitamin A, C and E to help protect skin from harmful environmental agents.

Smash Box Photo Finish: This is one of the best primers out there. Packed with antioxidants, Photo Finish has a unique colorless, oil-free formulation that helps fill in fine lines and pores to create a flawless foundation finish.

Lancome LA BASE PRO Perfecting Makeup Primer: This has an oil-free, silicon base formulation that provides a smooth, long-lasting canvas for an air-brushed look. It feels so velvety on the skin, which gives it a vibrant, satin finish.

Arbonne Virtual Illusion Makeup Primer: This is an all natural, oil-free primer that is silky, smooth and light weight. I find that this primer is actually good for the skin. It makes foundation last longer while leaving skin feeling and looking absolutely flawless.

L'Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Smoothing Resurfacing Primer: It is amazing how affordable this primer is yet very effective. It has such a lovely velvet texture and gives skin an absolutely matte finish. It evens out skin texture and provides a smooth, silky canvas for foundation application.

Nail Candy Of The Week: Hot Gossip

I woke up this morning and all I felt like doing was paint my nails red :)
I bought this Rimmel London Wear Maxx Hot Gossip nail polish a while ago in London. And although I have tons and tons of red nail polishes, this still remains one of my personal favorites.

Looking through its bottle, it appears to have a shimmery formulation. But once I apply the color onto my nails, the shimmery appearance turns into a glossy appearance which I love so much. This nail color is vibrant and long lasting. It doesn't chip and literally lasts for about 7 days. This polish is now called Rimmel LYCRA® Pro but the formulation hasn't changed one bit.

My Sephora Wish List

Every time I visit Sephora, I feel like a kid in a candy store. I spend hours and hours, scouring the store and buying new and exciting makeup. Ok, I must admit, I am an impulse shopper.

Lately, I have been trying to be good and even managed to put myself on a strict budget. But I still find myself coveting items at Sephora. To deal with my spending problem, I decided to create a Sephora Wish List. So rather than swiping my Hello Kitty debit card at Sephora, I just write the items I covet on my wish list and leave the store...Great saving plan right?

Here are some items on the top of my list

Underworld is a lipstick from one of my favorite makeup brands right now, Illamasqua. It is a vivid violet color that would look gorgeous with the perfect little black dress.

I have wanted this Pink Sephora Metro Train Case for so long. But I can't get myself to spend such a large amount on a train case. The more I see it though, the more I want it. Its just too cute.

Oh, how I want 12 vibrant colors in one palette from Make Up For Ever. It is called the Flash Color Case and it is so amazing. The colors are super creamy and highly pigmented.

I want NARS Exhibit A Blush. It is a vibrant red blush that does wonders to my cheek bones. I have tried it so many times but still haven't purchased it. Soon and very soon :)

TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in action. I have watched several tutorials on it, and have been amazed by its results. I want it the same way I want the iPad. I don't need it, I just want a new cool gadget:)

Supermodel (You Better Work)

I am so sorry for been MIA..I have been under the weather for the past couple of days( I still am)...But I have been dying to share photos from last Thursday's Wharton Annual Charity Fashion Show with you..

The makeup for the night was super exciting...Our fabulous MAC makeup artists were backstage again making all the models, hosts and hostesses look absolutely beautiful...For our face, they used Mineralize Skinfinish Natural face powder to give a fresh face look...For our eyes, they used major mascara drama Zoom Lash..And for our lips, they used a gorgeous deep orange lipstick Morange..

OMG, It was such an awesome experience..Last year, I had the privilege of being on the fashion committee...Which meant being charge of clothes, designers, models and backstage craziness...So this year, I jumped at the opportunity to model...Yes, to be a supermodel..And may I say it was oh so fabulous...I loved being a DIVA..Lol..It was exhilarating..You would have been proud of me..I certainly did my thing on the runway :)

Is It Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

It's Wednesday and it is sunny in Philadelphia. Yippee!!!

My original plan for the day was to catch up on school work, have lunch with a friend and practice my catwalk for the Wharton Annual Charity Fashion Show tomorrow...Yes, I will be strutting my stuff on stage in front of hundreds and hundreds of people tomorrow night, which I am super excited about.

But as the day will have it, I did none of that :) I woke up, and all I did was eat and catch up on all my TV shows... Lol...

Sadly I couldn't even make it to my lunch date because I had to put air in my tires...So annoying right? Anyway Jiffy Lube is literally 3 minutes away from my house....So like someone who had somewhere to go, I took a shower and got all dolled up......

Yes, I get dolled up for everything:) Even grocery shopping...I just can't help it....I blame it on my mom...I can still hear her saying to me "Take care of yourself and always look good because you never know who you'd meet outside." It's much funnier when she says it though...

But apart from that, I really do love spending time everyday on myself, especially doing my makeup..I love love love it because it really does make me feel fabulous every single day.....

Nail Candy Of The Week: Orange You Cute?

I don't know about you but I tend to get giddy for nail polish. I know its weird, but I sometimes crave nail polish the way I crave chocolate:)

This is why I decided to start a weekly post titled "Nail Candy Of The Week". This way I can share with you, my fab followers, my nail polish cravens.

So in the spirit of Spring, I will start this weekly post with a gorgeous nail polish that I tried out this week, Sally Hansen Salon Nail Lacquer Orange You Cute?

Such a cute name right? Well this nail polish is a reddish orange color that looks more red than orange. I only needed 2 coats to get such rich color on my nails. It was very smooth and easy to apply, and dried pretty fast.

I am a huge of Sally Hansen Nail Products, so I wasn't surprised when I fell head over heels for this nail color.

Teri Agins Talks Afro in 'Vogue' April 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of hearing one of the most down-to-earth and inspiring women that I have ever met speak during a class session-Teri Agins {WSJ senior writer of the weekly column "Ask Teri" and author of The End of Fashion}.

So you can just imagine my excitement when I opened this month's VOGUE and saw an article by her in the beauty section titled High Hopes. Oh my, was I thrilled or what?

What I love most about this article is the way Teri gets her readers nostalgic about the Afro.

She takes them back to a time (the 60s/70s) when women like Marsha Hunt, a Philadelphia pop singer who migrated to London in the 70s, made the Afro "certifiably groovy" and an "embodiment of black beauty." Teri talks about how Marsha Hunt inspired her to embody her blackness by rocking the Afro.

I found this article extremely empowering because it reminded me of how Angela Davis, an influential woman of our time, also embraced her blackness in the 70s with her beautiful Afro. Pam Grier and Beyoncé have also rocked the Afro in their own unique ways in the past.

But as Marc Jacobs shows in Louis Vuitton Spring 2010 show, the Afro is not only for black women, but for every woman.

Empowered and liberated, I also proudly rocked the Afro at L'Oreal's Centennial Celebration last year. I guess my look was a cross between Pam Grier and Lady Gaga eh? :) What do you think?

At first, I thought it was just a fad that will disappear after a couple of months.

Gray Nail Polish: The New Black

I am usually attracted to bright nail polish. But lately, I have been drawn to very unique, dull, quirky nail colors. Who said neutral polish couldn't be beautiful?

Well this week, I decided to buy the most gorgeous, purple-gray nail polish ever called Metro Chi by OPI at Sephora. Although I have read a couple of rave reviews on beauty blogs about this polish in the past, I was initially apprehensive about trying it out. I just assumed that a grayish polish like this wouldn't look good with my skin tone. Oh boy, was I wrong...

It looks absolutely amazing on my chocolate skin and I couldn't be happier. It applies smoothly and dries rather quickly. This polish is definitely one that flatters most skin tones, so don't be afraid to try it out...

Now that I am a gray nail polish addict, I just had to spread the word:)

My Deliciously Pink iPhone

Bye Bye Blackberry and Hello iPhone....

I have been wanting an iPhone for so long now, but decided to stick with my Blackberry since most of my friends were on it. But after much thought and deliberation, I decided to get the iPhone.

A couple of months ago, I remember telling my husband, who is an iPhone user and who I have teased for so long about having an iPhone, that I wanted my very own iPhone and all he did was laugh in my face :)

But this Sunday, he surprised me by taking me to the Apple store to pick up my very own iPhone. Yipee!!!! I am so excited and I can't seem to put it down. It is such a beautiful gadget....

And guess what? I have a gorgeous pink case to go with it..So yes, I can say I have a deliciously pink iPhone:)

Armani's Acqua di Gioia: The New Acqua Di Gio?

Giorgio Armani plans on seducing the world yet again with his new female fragrance, Acqua di Gioia.

According to the fashion industry's bible, WWD, Armani describes "the new scent as conjuring up the image of a strong, serene and free-spirited woman who exists in perfect harmony with nature".

With its sensuous bottle shaped from a drop of water, this fragrance gives tribute to the beautiful shape of a woman. The scent is reminiscent of a place that recharges all senses of a woman in the midst of all things beautiful-nature and water.

I am truly excited about Acqua di Gioia, as one of my favorite Armani fragrances of all times is his celebrated male fragrance, Acqua Di Gio.

I can't wait for this new female creation to hit the stores this June. Kudos to Mr Armani. Kudos.

I Heart M.A.C Viva Glam: From Our Lips

Weeks ago I went to the mall for some quality time with my wallet, and found myself in front of the M.A.C counter :)

I am a total lipstick junkie, so it was no surprise that I found myself purchasing yet another lipstick. I just couldn't help myself, I heart lipstick so much.

I am a huge fan of M.A.C Viva Glam Lipsticks. Not only are these lipsticks always so fabulous, but 100% (Yes, 100%) of all proceeds goes straight to the M.A.C AIDS Fund for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Awesome right?

So I was extremely thrilled to learn that two of my favorite artists, Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper, teamed up as M.A.C's Newest spokeswomen for the new M.A.C Viva Glam campaign "From Our Lips".

The two limited lipsticks, Viva Glam Gaga and Viva Glam Cyndi, bear the signatures of these iconic women as a way to give voice and support to women-of All ages, All races and All sexes.

I have a weak spot for pink, so I purchased the Viva Glam Gaga, a gorgeous pale pink shade. But I am craving the Viva Glam Cyndi, which is a smooth coral red color. So many decisions, so little time.

I use to be scared of fake lashes. But once I got the hang of it, I got so addicted...

Fake lashes are everywhere. From the drug store to specialty retailers, you can get yourself a pair of fake lashes for special occasions or just because.... They add so much depth to one's face, that I couldn't help but fall in love with them.

For those who are apprehensive about using fake lashes, here are 10 easy steps to help make faux lashes your new BFF.

Step 1: Clean your eyelids with an oil-free makeup remover. Eyelids need to be free of makeup because most cosmetics contain oil, which makes it hard for glue to stick.

Step 2: Select your fake lashes. If you are looking for a natural look, pick one that blends perfectly with your natural lashes. But if you are looking for some excitement, pick a dramatic pair.

Step 3: Remove your fake lashes from its pack and hold them using tweezers.

Step 4: Hold the fake lashes over your eyelids to see how well they fit over your natural lashes. Trim the sides of the fake lashes so they don’t extend past your eyelid. You may also need to trim the length.

Step 5: Add adhesive to your fake lashes. Don’t apply too much glue. You may want to put some on your hand or paper as a precaution.

Step 6: Wait for about a minute before applying the fake lashes to your lash line, so that the adhesive can become tacky. Make sure the adhesive doesn’t touch your eyelid.

Step 7: Begin applying your fake lashes from the inside corner. Press and hold the fake lashes as close to the lash line as possible. This step is much easier when tweezers are used.

Step 8: Let the fake lashes dry and then use an eyelash curler to merge your natural and fake lashes together. Apply liquid eyeliner on your eyelids to make your fake lashes look even more natural. You may or may not want to use mascara.

Step 9: To remove fake lashes, use an eye makeup remover. The oil in the eye makeup remover will loosen the fake lashes.

Step 10: Make sure you keep the fake lashes clean if you plan on using them again. Remove adhesive from the fake lashes before reusing.

Like everything else in life, practice makes perfect.

So don't be scared, just have fun with it......

Don't you hate how weekends go so fast? Well I do:)

I really wanted to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland this weekend but didn't get a chance to...

That is why I was super excited when I came across Michelle Phan's Video Makeup Tutorial inspired by Tim Burton on Lancome's twitter page.

For those of you who may not know who Michelle Phan is, she is a makeup artist and mega youtube sensation, known for her fascinating online beauty tutorials. And now Lancome's Video Makeup Artist. So exciting eh?

Even though she is only 22, she has taken the beauty world by storm with her highly interactive beauty tutorials and her connectivity with her fans. And yes, I am one of those faithful fans :)

I really heart her Tutorial inspired by Tim Burton. It shows just how simple it is to recreate the Gothic look while keeping it romantic and super fresh.

My Beauty Regimen: Part 1

OMG, I love Fridays. I absolutely love Fridays. One of the perks of being in B school is that I get Fridays off...Yippee!!!

So before I graduate and have to go back into the real world, I would love to use this opportunity to share my daily beauty regimen with you:)

Every beauty regimen should start with great skin care. And as a product junkie, I have loads and loads of skin care products.

But after trying so many products, I have finally found what products work for me:)

Vichy Nutrilogie 2 Intensive Nourishing Moisturizing Cream

Every night before I go to bed, I moisturize my skin with my favorite Vichy product. Even though it is not a night cream, I use it as such and I love the results. An intensive moisturizer suitable for very dry skin, it is packed with lipids and helps replenish the skin's own supply of lipids with a non-greasy feel. This always leaves my skin feeling soft and very supple.

Superdrug Tee Tree and Peppermint Facial Wash

I then start my morning by washing my face with this fab facial wash. Known for its healing properties, Tea tree is a natural antibacterial agent that helps prevent skin disorders. Peppermint oil produces a cooling sensation that is extremely therapeutic to the skin.

Kiehl's Bath and Shower Liquid Body Cleanser

I love love love using this product. Not tested on animals, it is effective at removing impurities, leaving skin clean, smooth and refreshing while maintaining my skin's moisture. My fave fragrance is Grapefruit.

Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk and Honey Body Polish

I deserve to be pampered everyday, so I exfoliate my skin with this luxurious product. It contains pure honey and soy milk protein, which leaves my skin feeling smooth and silky.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil with Brazilian Nut and Almond Oils

As soon as I get out of the shower, I use my good ol' Vaseline. It replenishes skin and locks in moisture for naturally smooth and radiant, non- greasy skin. And may I say, it smells so delicious....

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning

In the summer, I use this product for a beautiful moisturizing experience. And yes, it also smells delicious...

Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Shine Control Day Facial Moisturizer

I have combination skin on face, which means my T zone area is oily and the rest of my face is dry. So this product is absolutely perfect for me. It lightly moisturizes my skin, blots up excess oil and controls shine. The Tea tree and Witch hazel components helps to keep my skin spot free and healthy.

Arbonne Virtual Illusion Makeup Primer

After moisturizing my face, I complete my skin care regime with this fab, velvety primer. With a blend of vitamins, this advanced primer creates a flawless canvas before any makeup application. It helps to smooth and minimize appearance of fine lines and large pores. It feels so silky that it creates a matte and radiant finish.

The BreakUp Haircut

I was chatting with one of my classmates who was going through a bad breakup.
And for some reason, all she wanted to talk about was getting a fab new haircut.

There is just something about a haircut that seems to ease all the pain away.
I am not sure whether it is the excitement of reinventing oneself or the act of being bold.

But there is definitely something very therapeutic about cutting one's hair after a major breakup (and yes, I am talking from past experience :)

So she asked me for possible haircut suggestions, and all I could do was jump for joy!

Best Kept Skin Care Secret

A friend of mine recently sent me an article on the most effective solution to dry skin.

And it was surprising to learn that Vaseline does more than prevent nappy rash.

It is actually the best kept skin care secret out there.

According to the Harvard Health Publication on "Skin Care and Repair", dry skin is caused by loss of moisture in the skin due to aging and sun damage.

With time, the skin's ability to produce natural oils slows down, and skin begins to lose its suppleness and elasticity.

After reading this article and the article on "Vaseline for Skin Care" at Livestrong.com, I became particularly curious about the numerous uses of Vaseline and found 4 skin care uses:

Vaseline used as a Facial Moisturizer

Very cheap and effective, Vaseline attracts water and traps it in the skin, which prevents loss of moisture, smooths wrinkles and keeps skin looking supple. It is most effective when applied after a lukewarm shower at night, to seal the moisture to the skin.

Vaseline used as Eye Makeup Remover

Very effective at taking off eye makeup while leaving skin soft and smooth.

Vaseline used as a Body Moisturizer

Apply Vaseline before going to bed generously on your hands and feet, and cover them with latex gloves and socks respectively. You will definitely notice an improvement in your skin's elasticity.

Vaseline used to remove Faux Lashes

It removes faux lashes gently while helping to hydrate natural lashes.

MakeUp Trends: Gaga and Beyoncé "Telephone"

I missed the video premiere of "Telephone" last night on E! at 11.30pm because I was watching Real Housewives of New York on Bravo :) Yes I am a TV junkie too....

Anyway, I finally got to watch the video and may I say I spy some hot makeup trends....

Who wore her makeup better? Beyoncé or Gaga?

Gaga screamed edgy with magenta lips. Use MAC lip pencil "Magenta" and Viva Glam Gaga Lustre for lips.

Beyoncé's dramatic cat eyes can be easily recreated using Lancôme Artliner Precision Point Eye Liner in "Noir". You can also use Lancôme Color Design Lipstick in "Red Stiletto" to complete her look.

Gaga still maintains her bold magenta lips as she waits on tables.

Beyoncé shows off her patriotism with star studded nails.

Beyoncé takes control of the getaway car and looks fab in Goth lipstick. As part of their Style Black collection last fall, MAC had a stunning black lipstick called "Black Knight".

Also try Chanel for some unusual black lipstick.

That's why I enjoyed every single juicy moment of tonight's America's Next Top Model.

This show is so hilarious, I can't afford to miss a single episode....
What's not to love: The madness, the mayhem and the prettiest man on TV, Mr Jay Manuel.

And may I say, Tyra Banks looked oh so fierce with her "deep, dark, chocolate" hair...Oh so gorgeous!!

As for the models, here are my fab faves so far.....

It is so inspiring to hear that Beyoncé aka Mrs Cater has decided to open a cosmetology center for the Phoenix House, a recovery center for drug and alcohol addiction. All beauty products will be donated by L'Oreal, to help train men and women who are recovering from additions in beauty school.

Oscar Fever 2010

Sunday night at the Oscars was filled with fun, fashion and of course beautiful people.

I certainly didn't have the privilege of attending the oscars, but I still felt all the excitement -thanks to great television.

Here are some of my favorite beauty highlights...

Taking home the Best Actress Award for The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock looked absolutely stunning in her Marchesa dress.

But it was her bold pink lips that grabbed my attention. As you all know, I am a sucker for pink :)

With a Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination for Crazy Heart, Maggie Gyllenhaal also looked absolutely fabulous with bold pink lips.

Also a Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in Up In The Air, Vera Farmiga went for blush colored lips.

Cameron Diaz showed that a spot of color on her lips nicely complements her gorgeous eyes.

Charlize Theron proved that red lipstick never goes out of style.

Nicole Richie rocked my favorite cat eyes look with jet black liquid eyeliner and grey smoky eyeshadow.

Kristen Stewart brought Twilight fever to the red carpet with her smokey eye look.

The Last Song star and Oscar presenter, Miley Cyrus, also rocked a strong eye look with the help of a voluminous mascara and smoldering pencil eyeliner.

Carrie Bradshaw would most definitely approve of Sarah Jessica Parker's smoldering eyes at the Oscars. Très chic.

The star of The Back-up Plan, Jennifer Lopez, showed that sultry makeup never looked so good.

Loved Jennifer Hudson's bangs and nude lips. Oh so fabulous.

Meryl Streep, who has been nominated for an Oscar 16 times, looked simply flawless.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, Queen Latifah also looked flawless at the Oscars. Her makeup look was achieved with Cover Girl products.

I couldn't get enough of Carey Mulligan's pixie hair cut. The Oscar nominated actress for The Education looked stunning with her edgy hair cut and glowing makeup.

Just watched Avatar for the first time this weekend, and couldn't help but gosh over Zoe Saldana.

Her makeup at the Oscars was simply beautiful. Not to strong, not to soft. Just perfect.

Winner of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Precious, Mo"Nique showed that beauty knows no boundaries. Loved her bare lips and the flamboyant hair accessory.

Are You Obsessed?

There is no way I can ask myself this question without talking about, the one and only, Lady Gaga. To me, she is the epitome of obsession. She is fabulous, stylish, passionate and indeed, a true pioneer. Not since Madonna has a star made mainstream “go gaga” the way Lady Gaga has in the past couple of years.

Like a lightening bolt, she has shocked us with her style, attitude and music. But most importantly, she has single-handedly changed the world of makeup. She is one person who has made avant garde makeup look particularly wearable.

Pardon me if I lack scientific results as to whether or not Lady Gaga was the sole reason for the return of avant garde makeup to the runways and the streets. However, I do believe that she has pushed beauty boundaries like no one else has since the heyday of Rupaul.

She has made it okay for “the obsessed” to express themselves without being apologetic or caring about what other people thought of them. She has made it cool to be seen with heavy makeup during odd hours of the day. She has made it fashionable to over-embellish one’s face with drag queen eyelashes. She has dared to be different, and brought back the fierceness Rupaul worked so vehemently to instill in us in the 90s.

Therefore, to me, obsession is simply passion. Obsession is simply style. Obsession is simply expression. Obsession is simply relative. I am obsessed with makeup and I am proud. I love the way it feels, I love the way it looks, I love to experiment with it, and I am proud to be makeup obsessed- all thanks to, the one and only, Lady Gaga…
